Terpene Isolates 101: Guaiene

If you're just getting started with terpenes, odds are you're wondering how each isolate can be used. Terpene isolates can be used in hemp, CBD, and cannabis products as well as concentrates, vapes, foods, beverages, and aromatherapy infusions. In fact, adding terpenes to health and beauty products, cosmetics, vaporizer cartridges and e-juice, foods and beverages, and aromatherapy infusions is a great way to add an extra boost of body-nourishing benefits to your products and make THC/CBD products more effective. This week, we're diving deeper into the sweet, woody and balsamic terpene isolate known as Guaiene.

Guaiene Isolate

Guaiene terpenes are frequently used as a flavoring and fragrance-enhancing agent in many processed foods, bakery items, cereals, cereal products like starch, and edible ices like sherbet and sorbet. It offers a refreshing sweetness or earthy, spicy aromas and flavors to foods and fragrances.

Guaiene terpenes have shown lots of promise as far as health benefits and uses go, even though they haven't been researched as thoroughly as many other terpenes. Many exciting studies indicate that Guaiene may be useful as a cancer killer, potent anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant. They have been well-documented as potent antimicrobial agents and have a calming and relaxing effect on people when used in aromatherapy infusions. When introduced to other terpenes and cannabinoids, Guaiene has shown to boost the effects of cannabinoids and other terpenes.

Below, we've covered everything you need to know about the uses and effects of Guaiene terpenes as well as where you can find them in nature. Just remember that science doesn't fully understand all of the effects and uses of Guaiene terpenes yet. While we have a basic understanding, further study on humans is still necessary to support and solidify all of the findings. Always talk to your doctor before beginning a new dietary supplement, even one with naturally-occurring terpenes like Guaiene.

Benefits of Guaiene Terpenes

While Guaiene isn't one of the most heavily researched terpene isolates out there, 100+ studies have been conducted on essential oils containing 20% or more of Guaiene sesquiterpenes. Many studies have been conducted externally, though some have been conducted on living cells.

For starters, a handful of studies found that Guaiene, like most other terpenes, is antibacterial in nature. In one study, it was found to be quite potent against the bacteria that cause acne. A handful of other studies also found Guaiene to be antimicrobial. It was also found to be insecticidal against ants and a handful of other problem insects.

Some studies that found Guaiene to be antimicrobial also concluded that these terps are capable of acting as a potent antioxidant and even acted cytotoxic against liver and breast cancer cells while reducing oxidative stress on the body.

In the same vein, Guaiene terpenes were found to actually kill lung cancer cells. The study highlighted their potential anti-metastatic effects that prevented tumors from spreading cancerous cells. Another similar study found that Guaiene terpenes could act as an angiogenesis inhibitor; which means that it prevents tumors from growing blood vessels of their own. Guaiene seems to have a remarkable effect on cancers and tumors. One additional study found that Guaiene terpenes could also inhibit cancer cell growth while it reduced oxidative stress in the body.

Like many terpenes, Guaiene has been found to be a potent anti-inflammatory. One study also showed promise for Guaiene to be a good, natural way to reduce pain by shutting off the sensory neurons in areas with a painful injury in addition to its anti-inflammatory properties.

While these aspects of Guaiene terpenes are documented well, there is also some anecdotal evidence surrounding how they affect a person during aromatherapies. Much like b-Caryophyllene, Guaiene terpenes seem to have a mentally soothing and relaxing effect that is frequently used for reducing the symptoms of anxiety. When taken with other terpenes or added to cannabinoids, Guaiene terpenes enhance absorption rates of cannabinoids in people, boosting their therapeutic effects.

All in all, Guaiene is a powerful sesquiterpene boasting a variety of health and therapeutic applications. Further study on this powerful terpene is needed to accurately assess its medicinal and wellness value, but science is already taking a closer look into this rarer terpene. We're excited to see how useful this terpene will be in due time.

Natural Sources of Guaiene Terpenes

Guaienene terpenes are only found in a handful of plants, but they are found in exceptionally high concentrations. The plant containing the most Guainene terpenes are several species in the Ginseng family, though Guaiene can also be found in Patchouli, Hops, Basil, and Oregano. It isn't commonly found in cannabis strains, though it can usually be found alongside other terpenes like b-Caryophyllene and Myrcene. Below is a list of plants that contain Guaiene terpenes.

Common Uses of Guaiene Terpenes

Whether through your favorite fruits and spices or through an aromatherapy diffuser, Guaiene isolate smells and tastes great and does some pretty cool stuff both externally and within your body.

Guaiene terpenes can be safely added to all sorts of products to reduce inflammation, kill cancer cells, and improve your mood. It can safely be eaten, drank, infused, and inhaled with a little bit of mixing. It can also be used to improve cannabis products like vapes and concentrates that may have lost cannabinoid potency or terpene content during extraction.

Add Guaiene terpenes to foods and beverages to enjoy the anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and antioxidant properties within the whole body. A dash of water-soluble Guaiene terpenes in your favorite foods or beverages add a sweet, woody balsamic flavor that can help to make you feel more relaxed and restful.

Add Guaiene terpenes to essential oil diffusers and aromatherapy infusions to kill airborne bacteria and microbes to help you breathe easier. The sweet, woody aroma is also great for promoting a relaxing, stress-free atmosphere to your daily routine.

Add Guaiene terpenes to cannabis concentrates and hemp oils made from strains with higher herbal or woody terpene content, such as b-Caryophyllene, and Myrcene since Guaiene is found in the same family of sesquiterpenes and offers similar flavors and effects. Guaiene terpenes can make them smell and taste better and boost the potency of THC/CBD or other cannabinoid effects in a documented phenomenon known as the Entourage Effect.

Just keep in mind that not all terpenes are created equal. Different terpenes will always have different effects, but they're not all made the same. We know you have a choice when it comes to terpene providers, but no other choice comes close to our level of quality.
